SAP and RIM Usher In a New Era for Enterprise Mobility

The Leader in Enterprise Software and the Leader in Mobile Connectivity for the Enterprise Partner to Change the Way People Work

New York - SAP AG (NYSE: SAP AG) and Research In Motion (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced a co-innovation partnership to usher in a new era in enterprise mobility. SAP, the leader in enterprise software, and RIM, the leader in mobile connectivity for the enterprise, have joined forces to change the way people work, by enabling anytime, anywhere mobile access to SAP enterprise applications through the widely adopted BlackBerry® platform.

Just as the BlackBerry wireless platform has transformed the way people use e-mail, SAP and RIM will bring the power and productivity of SAP enterprise applications to the BlackBerry platform in a similarly robust and user-friendly manner. Mobile users will soon be able to work freely on SAP, no longer tethered to their desktops or offices in order to perform their jobs. By tearing down the walls between enterprise computing and mobile connectivity, SAP and RIM are enhancing employee productivity.

The first output expected from this new partnership is a native BlackBerry smartphone client that will merge the power of the SAP® Customer Relationship Management (SAP CRM) application with core BlackBerry smartphone applications, including the BlackBerry Email, Address Book and Calendar applications, to deliver an indispensable tool for sales people. The new mobile SAP CRM application will leverage the inherent security, management capabilities and efficiency of the BlackBerry platform and the intuitive user experience of BlackBerry smartphones. Organizations that already have the SAP CRM and the BlackBerry solutions deployed will require only basic user training and minimal incremental IT infrastructure investments.

According to research firm IDC, the mobile user population is set to increase from about 800 million in 2007, accounting for 25.7 percent of the worldwide workforce, to one billion in 2011, accounting for 30.4 percent of the workforce.1

“Providing access to and securing broad adoption of enterprise applications with mobile workers has been a pervasive challenge over the years,” said Mary Wardley, vice president, CRM Applications, IDC. “Most existing solutions require users to learn yet another application and navigation paradigm on their devices, and for IT to manage a complex infrastructure to deploy and support. By having a native application on a BlackBerry smartphone that easily extends functionality but retains the native ease of use, users will find it non-intrusive to adopt applications such as CRM. This is an exciting partnership and definitely has the potential to change the game.”

This groundbreaking partnership between two leaders in their respective markets leverages best-in-class business applications and mobile technology to deliver:

Expanded Reach of SAP® Business Suite Applications – Users rely on their BlackBerry smartphones for access to people and information on the go, so it becomes easier to introduce new enterprise applications with a far greater adoption rate.

Automated Data Synchronization – The new solution leverages the push-based architecture of BlackBerry® Enterprise Server to automate data synchronization between business systems and mobile applications. BlackBerry smartphone users have the flexibility to use the mobile enterprise application even in the absence of network coverage. Once back in coverage, all updates queued on the handset and back-end servers are automatically transferred without user action, similar to how e-mail on BlackBerry smartphones works today.

Easy Deployment – The mobile device management capabilities of BlackBerry Enterprise Server allow IT groups to centrally manage and wirelessly deploy mobile applications to BlackBerry smartphones.

Market-Leading Enterprise-Class Security – The proven capability and demonstrated track record from SAP in enterprise applications security, combined with the renowned wireless security of the BlackBerry platform, helps ensure enterprise-class security for the end-to-end solution.

Low Incremental Cost of Ownership – Businesses that have already deployed BlackBerry Enterprise Server and SAP applications can leverage their existing investments and keep deployment and maintenance costs at a minimum.

“SAP is thrilled to bolster its long-standing relationship with RIM through the co-development of this breakthrough offering,” said Bill McDermott, president and CEO, SAP Americas and Asia Pacific Japan. “By combining RIM’s expertise for empowering the mobile worker and SAP’s strength in business computing, we are embarking on an exciting future to make it easier and more convenient for today’s business users to perform their jobs. Our extended partnership with RIM will open many new doors for mobile workers around the world who require real-time mobile access to enterprise applications in a secure setting.”

“In concert with SAP, we are bringing the unique benefits of the BlackBerry platform to SAP applications, providing organizations with the security, manageability, efficiency and ‘push’ capabilities of the BlackBerry platform with a dedicated client application that also integrates with core BlackBerry applications,” said Jim Balsillie, co-CEO, Research In Motion. “Our partnership with SAP will allow us to deliver an unparalleled solution to our mutual customers who demand the very best in enterprise mobility. With this new partnership, we have an excellent opportunity to further entrench BlackBerry as the leading mobile connectivity platform for enterprise information access. The vision that users can have access to SAP’s enterprise computing applications from virtually anywhere, anytime, represents a new era of opportunity.”

As part of the work delivered through the partnership, RIM will enhance its framework for building intuitive, workflow-enabled mobile applications for the BlackBerry platform. The framework will serve as the basis for developing mobile applications for other solutions in the SAP Business Suite.

SAP and RIM will be previewing the mobile CRM application at the annual SAPPHIRE® conferences in Orlando, May 4 to 7, and Berlin, May 19 to 21, as well as at the Wireless Enterprise Symposium (WES) 2008, May 13 to 15 in Orlando.

Here's Your Chance to Score Big in the AT&T Game Development Contest for Windows Mobile

Grand-Prize Winner Will Receive Mobile Game Developer Contract With I-play, Prime Placement on AT&T MEdia Mall and Cash Prize of $25,000

AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), Microsoft Corp., HTC Corp. and I-play announced the creation of the AT&T Game Development Contest for Windows Mobile to discover the next breakthrough mobile game. Windows Mobile games represent the fastest-growing segment of the AT&T gaming business. The AT&T Game Development Contest, launching May 1, is truly unique as it represents the first time all members of the mobile gaming ecosystem are collaborating in an effort to inspire the developer community to take mobile gaming applications to the next level.

In a May 2007 research report, Gartner Inc. forecast worldwide mobile gaming end-user revenue to reach $9.6 billion in 2011 — up significantly from the $2.9 billion realized in 2006. Gartner attributes this projected growth in mobile gaming to consumer awareness and the increase in content being developed by gaming publishers. AT&T, which has the broadest portfolio of Windows Mobile phones of any U.S. carrier, currently offers more than 2,300 on-deck mobile games and is always evaluating innovative and entertaining gaming options to offer its 71 million-plus mobile customers.

"AT&T has a strong commitment to deliver more wireless choices to our customers — in terms of products, services and applications," said Mark Collins, vice president, Consumer Data, for AT&T's wireless unit. "One way we reinforce this commitment and demonstrate that we are open to innovation is by working closely with the developer community so that we can bring visibility to their creativity, while ensuring that our customers have access to the most advanced, compelling and fun products and services — now and in the future."

"We are happy to support this contest and encourage developers to take full advantage of our powerful, flexible platform, providing AT&T customers with new applications that can enhance their mobile experiences," said Scott Horn, general manager of the Mobile Communications Business, Microsoft Corp. "With such a broad portfolio of AT&T devices, Windows Mobile is ripe for developers looking to reach a mass audience with their products."

Don Ryan, senior vice president of I-play Publishing, said: "I-play's integrated support and close collaboration with the mobile games development community has helped fuel innovation and creativity since its inception in 1998, and so we are pleased to participate in such an imaginative relationship. With the recent consolidation of our publishing division, we can bring a new game to market across many popular consumer platforms, including Windows Mobile devices. We look forward to working with the winner and help bring their vision to the gaming public."

AT&T makes it simple for its millions of customers to discover, shop and play games directly from their phones:
- Look for the menu item called AT&T Mall or the MEdia Mall shopping bag icon.
- Select Shop Games; you will see a list of categories such as New Arrivals, Top Sellers and a variety of genres that you can browse to find the game you want.
- Select a game, then follow the prompts to purchase, download and install it onto your phone. (Standard data charges apply.)
- Start playing!

Beginning May 1, gaming developers can fill out the online entry form to submit their Windows Mobile compatible game. All game entries submitted during the next three months will be reviewed and judged based on the following criteria: game-play value and quality, game uniqueness and creativity, and marketplace potential. One grand-prize winner will receive a mobile game developer contract with I-play, prime placement of the finished game on the game portal on AT&T MEdia Mall and a cash prize of $25,000. Prizes will also be awarded to three finalists and 10 semifinalists. For complete contest details, contest entry and prize structure, visit http://developer.att.com/gamescontest. The deadline to submit an entry is July 31, 2008. The winner will be announced at CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment 2008 in San Francisco.

Asustek to launch Qualcomm-based 3G handsets by year-end, say sources

Asustek Computer has started developing 3G handsets utilizing 3G solutions from Qualcomm, with the first Qualcomm-based 3G model to be launched by the end of this year, according to market sources.

Asustek recently reached a licensing agreement with Qualcomm, enabling the company to begin developing 3G handsets using Qualcomm CDMA technologies (QCT), the sources noted.

Asustek previously utilized platforms coming from Marvell and EMP (Ericsson Mobile Platform) and the signing of the Qualcomm technology licensing (QTL) agreement made Asustek the first handset company in Taiwan to engage in the development of handsets with three platforms, the sources noted.

Asustek's 3G handsets, including the M530w, P550 and P735, are built on a Marvell platform, while the V88i, Z802 and 750i are built based on EMP.

Asustek to roll out second-generation Eee PC with touchscreen panels and possibly GPS support in May or June

Asustek's 8.9-inch second-generation Eee PC lineup will include touchscreen panels and possible GPS support, with shipments expected to begin in May or June, according to Kevin Lin, vice president of Asustek's sales department. Pricing is projected to reach NT$15,000 (US$500), Lin added.

The company is also looking to ship its E-DT (desktop PC) priced at US$199 at the same time, according to Lin.

The company aims to ship up to five million Eee PCs in 2008 through retail channels and contract orders combined, with quarterly retail-only shipments expected to total 650,000-700,000 units, according to the company. The device is seeing a 50% supply shortage in the Taiwan and Hong Kong regions and 70% worldwide in the first quarter of 2008.

Lin also pointed out that the company currently is facing a battery shortage for its Eee PCs due to a fire at a plant of LG Chem earlier this month but expects to solve the battery shortage in the second quarter of this year.
